You might not think that dies are a good match for mixed media
especially if you are wanting them to cut chipboard.
Well I decided to put them to the test using Couture Creations
Everyday Essentials. I have made a cute
Easter canvas to help in my Easter decorating this year.
I have cut out lots of leaves from cardstock too and inked them with Distress
ink, there is a little step by step below.
I have added a bunch of woodland embellishments
to give my little Easter bunny the perfect
home among the leaves.
The back ground is made up of leaves, butterflies and flowers cut
from old cereal boxes or light weight chipboard.
I have also added some eggshell for that mosaic look.
Cut separate butterflies from light weight chipboard
paint with gesso, ink edges and coat with
dimensional magic, sprinkle with white glitter for
shimmery butterfly.
Add assorted shapes cut in light weight chipboard to
the canvas with a good gel medium, allow to dry. Add some
seed beads and eggshell. When dry paint
with gesso.
Spray colours over top, I have used a little
alcohol ink to the egg shell too. Keep
spraying until you are happy with the look.
Dry off and rub over a good quality gold metallic paint.
Also paint sides with black gesso.
Wrap the canvas with fibres
and adhere sticks from the garden to the sides.
I have trimmed them with a hacksaw.
To create the aged rustic leaves, follow the steps below.
Step 1
Cut leaves from green cardstock
Step 2
Score veins into leaf over a mouse pad.
Daub Peeled paint Distress ink over the leaves
with Couture Creations Dauber.
Step 3
Daub Worn lipstick Distress ink over the ends
of the leaf for a natural aged look.
You can also swipe edges with a
very dry brush of gesso.
HANDY HINT
Buy about a dozen of the daubers and keep one for
each colour of your favourite ink.
Store in a snap lock bag so you can see
the colour you are after easily.
